Q: What Is The Alumni Education Gateway?

A: The Alumni Education Gateway brings the academic resources, courses, current events, seminars and research of the University and its faculty to global alumni in an easy to navigate digital format. Content has been selected with U-M alumni in mind. Information for alumni anywhere about all things Michigan. Bringing the U to you.

Q: How Could I Use The Gateway?

A: The Gateway was developed with the goal of housing many of the digital resources of all schools within the university in one place. The hope is that instead of spending time searching for the right website at the right school, alumni will visit the Gateway and find the University resources they are searching for here. On the Gateway you will find a range of subjects in various formats, including: Articles, Research Papers, News, Videos, Podcasts and Events.

Q: How Can I Access Courses On The Gateway?

A: We do provide access to courses on the Gateway. Course content is located on the Courses tab in the navigation bar.  Courses, in general, fall into two categories in-person and online:

In-Person Courses:

All in-person courses from across the university can be found under Courses using "In-Person Courses". These courses are held in a variety of in-person formats at different locations globally.

Many in-person courses are also offered through our partners at the U-M Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Information about these courses can be found under the Partner Tab on the navigation bar.

Online Courses:
All online courses from across the university can be found under Courses using "Online Courses." 

Additional online learning experiences are available via Michigan Online. For questions about courses offered and how to access them, please contact Michigan Online directly at michigan-online@umich.edu.

Q: How Can I Search The Gateway?

A: The Gateway has over 3,000 pieces of content and additional content is added each day. Searchers can optimize their search by following a few simple tips.

Entering a search term will bring up entries where that word is listed in the title, summary or tags of the individual entry. Searches bring up a large number of hits, to help refine your search, you can do the following:

  • Please note that the more terms you add to a search, the more hits you will have.
  • Add “” to the term, to bring up the entries that have the exact term you are looking for. An example is the term child development. When entered in the search box, this term will yield all entries that include the term child and development. Adding the “” will help narrow this search.
  • Use the tags listed on the left side of the page to narrow your search results.
  • Use the tags listed in the actual article to narrow your search results.
  • Add # to a tag word to search for the term. Example: #sustainability


Q: Why Should I Log In?

A: Logging in and creating a profile personalizes both the ‘Featured Story’ and ‘Discovery of the Week’ areas on the Alumni Education Gateway. Specifically, by selecting the ‘Subjects I’m Interested In,’ your ‘Featured Story’ will be customized to show you a piece of educational content that is from one of those subjects. Your ‘Discovery of the Week’ will highlight a subject you have yet to select, to help you explore new topics.

Q: How Do I Log In?

A: After clicking ‘Sign In’, in the blue box at the top right corner of the page, you can select one of the number of ways to log in. You can use your U-M login (uniqid) and password, or you can log in with one of your social media accounts

If you use your U-M login and have forgotten your password, please click here to reset your password.

If you do not have a U-M login, you can click here to create one.

If you are logging in with a social media account, you must verify your identity, first. You will be asked your legal first and last id, date of birth, the 4-digit year you earned your first degree, as well as your alumni ID, U-M ID or the last 4-digits of your SSN.

If you need further assistance to log in, please call the Information and Technology Services during their regular business hours (Sunday, 2pm-7pm; Monday-Thursday, 7am-7pm; Friday, 7am-6pm; closed on Saturday), 734-764-4357.


Q: How Can I Submit Content?

A: At the moment, the Alumni Education Gateway is partnering with schools, colleges, and units from across campus to continue to build out and update the education content shared through the Gateway. Campus partners should complete this form to share suggested content. In the future, there will be a call to action sent out to alumni requesting potential content. Please send you questions to alumnieducation@umich.edu.


A: If you are from a University unit, you may submit material to be included in the Gateway by using our submission form. To request instructions on how to submit, please contact alumnieducation@umich.edu.

Q: How Frequently Is Content Updated?

A: Content will be added to the Gateway each week. ‘Featured Stories’ and ‘Discovery of the Week” will also be updated weekly.


Q: Where Do I Submit Feedback When I Am Experiencing A Technological Issue?

A: If you are experiencing a technical issue, please click the ‘Send Feedback’ button at the bottom of any page on the Gateway OR call 800.847.4764 and provide your feedback directly.
